Hi,

 My name is Billy Plake and I am running for Van Alstyne City Council Place 5 and I would like for you to consider voting for me.

Personal Information:
I have been married for 42 years to my wife Donna and we have 2 sons, 2 daughter-in-laws, one granddaughter, and 2 grandsons on the way that live in Dallas and Murphy. We have lived in the new Georgetown addition for almost 8 years. I retired from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas in December 2004 and we moved here from Duncanville in 2005. I am a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Van Alstyne.

My history on the council:
When I first took office in May of 2009, my objectives were to get more eating places in VA, to help the downtown  area grow, and to get some employers to move here. Since I took office the following restaurants have opened  in VA. Buck Snort BBQ, El Patio Escondido, Tito's Nevarez Mexican Grill, Pizza Hut, Jack in the Box, Braums, Whistle Stop, Nacho Mamas, and Sali’s. The Downtown area has grown and improved as storefronts on Marshall and Main have been cleaned up or redone and a number of storefronts are setting ready to be purchased and come to life.  Other Items that the council has implemented during my term is an animal control ordinance, resurfacing of 11 of the 33 miles of city streets, many improvements to city parks, a re-adjustment of city finances to start creating funds to clean up the deteriorating infrastructure of VA, implemented recycling as part of new trash pickup service, maintained original Website for city of Van Alstyne, and rebuilt the Sewer Plant to conform to State standards. Caterpillar moved part of their Sherman plant here. Walker Insurance Phone Center, Hallmark Fire Apparatus, and Priority Public Safety have all moved to VA and provided jobs. Most important though is that I am very supportive of the management team that we have in place now in the city and with support from the council the city we will be able to make major strides towards a bright future for Van Alstyne.

Campaign:
During the last 2 elections that I ran in I mainly campaigned by going door to door and meeting all the voters face to face. I am sorry to say that I won’t be able to do that this time. I have been having some Sciatica problems and can’t walk that far. But if anyone has any questions or needs my help in any way they can always call or Email me.

If given the opportunity, I will continue to represent the people of VA in a manner that will reflect the caring and compassion that this community has for one another.
